Current EEF News

New Member Recruitment

The EEF Committee currently has openings for one new graduate and three undergraduate student members. This is an excellent opportunity to become involved in improving engineering education at CU.

The Engineering Excellence Fund (EEF) Committee is comprised of nine engineering students (six undergraduates and three graduates) and educators dedicated to improving the engineering education opportunities at CU Boulder. The Fund, generated through your differential student fees and tuition, provides financial support for the improvement of engineering educational opportunities inside and outside the classroom. EEF members collectively evaluate and make funding decisions on submitted proposals. There are three different proposal submission periods during the school year. The committee typically meets about every other week.

To apply, please email a paragraph of interest to eef@colorado.edu by April 25, 2012 at 11:59PM, describing yourself, your qualifications, and explaining your interest in becoming an EEF member. Please include the following information:
  • Name
  • Major/Department
  • Undergraduate/Graduate Student
  • Faculty adviser (if applicable)
  • Expected date of graduation
  • A short statement (about a half page or less) indicating your experience and why you desire to be a part of the Engineering Excellence Fund.

Sullivan-Carlson Award Nominations

EEF is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Sullivan-Carlson Innovation in Education Award. If you have been inspired by a professor or instructor at the University of Colorado College of Engineering, here is a way to show your appreciation. The Engineering Excellence Fund committee presents the Sullivan-Carlson Innovation in Education Award as recognition of one professor each year who makes an extra effort to involve students in hands-on, engaged learning. This may take place through innovative lecture classes, extraordinary lab classes, or through research experiences such as independent study. Nominations are sought exclusively from students and the EEF student committee selects the final winner.

If you would like to nominate a professor, send a brief (less than 1 page) description of why you believe this professor deserves the award. Please include the following in your nomination.

1. Name of Professor
2. Department
3. Relationship/Interaction (ie. instructor, academic advisor, research lead, etc.)
4. Your Name
5. Your Email Address

The award winner will be announced at the 2012 Engineering Design Expo and will receive a $1,000 performance award. For more information on the details of the award, please refer to the Sullivan-Carlson tab on this webpage.

All nominations should be sent to eef@colorado.edu. Please include the title "Sullivan-Carlson Award" in the subject line.
  • Congratulations to the winner of the 2011 Sullivan-Carlson Innovation in Education Award:
Dr. Ryan Starkey of Aerospace Engineering.
